An unoccupied 1995 Dodge pick-up truck burns in a wheat field on Aug. 14, 2008, about one mile west of Sheldon, N.D. Enderlin (N.D.) Assistant Fire Chief Gerald Schumacher said the fire started after the owner, farmer Eugene Krueger of rural Sheldon, parked the truck in the field. He said the truck's underside, still hot from a running engine, sparked a fire in the field which eventually engulfed the entire vehicle. Volunteer firefighters spent 10 to 15 minutes extinguishing the blaze, but the truck was a total loss. Schumacher said no one was injured, but the blaze scorched nearly an acre around the truck. Krueger was not on the scene when the fire began; however, he returned promptly to the field after noticing a plume of thick black smoke.
